The rapid advancement of digital technology has driven the emergence of various innovations aimed at enhancing efficiency and convenience in modern lifestyles. One significant development is the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in smart home systems, which enables household devices to operate automatically and in an integrated manner. The garage, as the main access point to a house, plays a crucial role not only as a storage space for vehicles but also as a protective barrier against external risks. However, in practice, many users often find it inconvenient or tedious to open garage doors manually. This condition highlights the need for a practical solution through the implementation of automation technology. This study aims to develop an IoT-based automatic garage door prototype using infrared (IR) sensors to detect vehicle distance. The system is designed so that the garage door opens automatically when a vehicle is within a specified range. Testing results indicate that when the vehicle approaches at a distance of 3 cm and 5 cm, the garage door successfully opens for 4 seconds before closing automatically. Conversely, at a distance of 8 cm, the door does not open as the sensor detects the position as too far. These findings demonstrate that IoT-based automation provides an effective solution to improve the efficiency of garage door usage while supporting the development of smart home concepts that are safe, practical, and aligned with the needs of modern society
